Maddox gad even offered his own services as the guest referee but after Triple H saw him interfere in a Bryan match that saw him lose, the former champion stepped in.
The other fights filling out the match card include United States Champion Dean Ambrose vs. Rob Van Dam (Kickoff Match), Natalya vs. Brie Bella, Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn vs. AJ Lee and Big E. Langston, Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow, Kane vs. Bray Wyatt (Ring of Fire Match, Brock Lesnar vs. CM Pun, World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian.
According to WWE writer John Clapp, "In naming the submission specialist as his No. 1 contender, Cena showed no small amount of respect for Bryan and the WWE Universe. Before making his decision, Cena polled the WWE Universe on the July 15 edition of Raw, taking their opinion into consideration. Few can deny that Cena chose wisely, as the WWE Universe chanted 'Yes!' along with Bryan."
